Rush, rush

And the winner of the most lame dialogue in a video goes to... Keanu Reeves and Paula Abdul in Rush, Rush.

Paula: Can I ask you something? Have you ever been in love?
Keanu: If I was, I didn't know it. You?
Paula: No. Isn't that terrible?
Keanu: Terrible? No. It just reminds you that we're all alone, that's all
Okay, I didn't understand that. At all. What does being alone have to do with being in love? What Paula should have asked is - who does your hair, Keanu?

Rekindle

You know how you get tired of an artist when you listen to a song of theirs over and over and over again? When Reality Bites was released, I was totally in love with the soundtrack that I'd listen to it all the time - while in the bath, in the car, as background music, and even while sleeping. One song that I particularly put on repeat a bajillion times was U2's All I Want Is You. But after a while, I didn't want it anymore. Until Paolo/Phooey/Pho lo/P Lo sent me the mp3. Now, I'm on a U2 high.

All I See

I'm REALLY liking this song right now. I'm bursting with fruit flavour. Without a hint of sarcasm.

Power sale

People are always complaining how useless sales are here compared to the US or Australia or Hong Kong. Well, Powerbooks in Alabang totally slashed the price of this product. Save 87%!! Imagine that!

Project Runway Finale

Everybody line up The show is about to start Everybody line up The show is about to start Places The show is about to start You have to show a look, have a look or give a look Faces Beautiful No one ugly allowed
Are you ready Here we go Philip Tampus' doily inspired collection. The last model looked like Matahari.
Veejay went the safe and clean route. It looked like a mix of Joey Samson and Ivar. Aries Lagat wowed the crowd with this three in one number. I think he's getting into the economic crunch vibe. Wasn't too fond of the colour palette he used. photos by Tammy David
The models all looked scary. I wondered where the more pleasant faces were. Then I figured they were in the other side of town at the Ferragamo 80th Anniversary show.

Not funny

Whoever did this sick joke is sick in the head. I saw this posted in my Friendster Bulletin Board. It was posted by this friend of mine who always changes his name for the fun of it. I really don't know what's so fun with having multiple names. I find it annoying actually. Friend, you won't keel over and die if you don't forward it. Are you that gullible? Unless he really died and I'm the last to know.

The saddest song ever

This is a real tear jerker. And it has a duet version with Sting but I couldn't find it in Youtube.

Things I dont understand

1. How I could misplace my wallet inside my car which I had in my hand earlier. Nobody could have taken it because I was the only one there. 2. Why say that the invite is cute when an hour later, you'd want the image changed? And this is an invite to an intimate and private event that was only meant to be emailed to eight people. Why so finicky? 3. Why it takes so long to have a press release approved when its just a draft. It's all the more absurd when they know its meant for tomorrow's event. 4. Why cars insist on staying on the left lane while maintaining a very slow speed. 5. Why the toll person awhile ago gave change to a car in the Absolutely No Change lane.

The best of

I read before that Mariah said she didn't feel the need to come out with a greatest hits yet because she was still alive. But she did anyway. And it was good. Sarah Mclachlan apparently does not think the same way. She's released so many records that include most of her hits, that you start to wonder.. what does she do in her free time? lock herself up in her little cabin in the woods and play the piano all day? Anyway, she released yet another Greatest Hits CD with the usual song suspects but with two new additions that sound really nice. The video is a bit weird though. U Want Me 2 I like how they made it appear she was underwater.. er.. playing the piano. Don't Give Up On Us

Cooper's birthday

We take our dog's birthdays seriously. Well, sort of. For Milko's Idontknowwhatage birthday, I bought him a carrot cake at Figaro. Sometimes in the absence of cake, we also give vanilla ice cream or pineapple chunks. In one of the pugs' birthday, my sister even bought food for everyone to feast on. "Everyone" consisted of the maids, driver, guard, and her. For Cooper's 5th birthday, I had them serve the dogs - Petunia, Maggie, and Mikka - spaghetti with Cooper's preferred brand of cheese, Queso-o.

The birthday boy.
Murfy, since he's still a growing puppy, was not allowed to partake of the pasta but had an extra cup of dog food. They were the only ones who had the pasta because we humans had Sopa de Ajo, liempo, and baked chicken.

Supreme swag

I'm usually the one giving out the swag bag to guests who come to our events. But since I was on another dimension of fun at last night's Philippine Star Supreme Awards (guys, it was one this year's best events ever), I was the one at the receiving end. Thanks for the stub, Tara! Paolo said he packed the bags himself. Each swag bag came with a lot of stuff: a banig of Fern C, a vitamin C supplement, a National bookstore bookmark, Katinko Ointment, packs of lube called Fire and Ice, a packet of Halo artificial sweetener, a tub of Olay Total effects, a box of Globe Asiatique postcards, a copy of Status Magazine (which reminds me of Colette's magazine), a Nokia baller ID and phone charm, and Tim's Zen Zest After Party scents - Nothing Happened Here (Room Spray) and Something Gonna Happen Here (Linen Sparay).

Finally

Guess what was FINALLY delivered today. No, it's not the SLK I've always wanted. Or the Louis Vuitton Graphite Tadao tote. With the amount of time and irritation that I experienced just to get this, it should be made out of read Gold. After countless phone calls, purposely sarcastic written emails to Smart, forms filled out, and financial documents submitted (despite them advertising that it isn't needed), I finally got my Smart Sim this morning. Just the other day, I was thinking of sending them a really nasty email (my third) to tell them about their not-so-amazing customer service. I guess the Account Manager has spider senses, being the bugs that they are for ticking me off, and hurried up the process. At least they waived the P700 that I was initially told to pay on top of the one month advance. The sim will be activated in 24 to 48 hours so if you're a media contact, please save the new number and trash the other one.

Oh.My.

I seriously want to weep. Aluminum! Backlit keyboard! Multi touch trackpad! With all those nice, new features - I can't think of a super valid reason to myself why I must trash my current Macbook and get this one. Maybe I should pray that the screen will go berserk. Or that Murfy nibble on the keyboard. Or I have a hard time typing at night - even with the lamp on. Or my fingers are getting strained from pressing the button on the trackpad. Picture picture

When I'm traveling, my basis for taking photos is if it will look good as my Mac's wallpaper. But for other people, they take shots that not only look great - it tells a story, too. One of them is German photographer Peter Bialobrzeski who traveled through Southeast Asia where he combined his own photographic investigations with workshops for young talents in Jakarta, Hanoi, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Singapore. The result was a "multifaceted kaleidoscope" of these six metropoles in the exhibit, "Mapping Invisible Cities". The exhibit opens this Friday, October 17, 6pm at the 3rd floor, Shangri-La Plaza. It'll feature the work of immensely talented photographers, which includes the future NYC grantee Tammy David. (Yey Tammy!).
"The diverse themes and approaches in the 105 pieces, in addition to Peter Bialobrzeski’s work, are like fragments of the unseen and unnoticed ordinariness hidden in these 6 cities. When these fragments are joined in one single frame, like a map, they begin to show what was formerly invisible. In mapping them, these photographers have made their cities more obvious and bring to the surface what we do not (want to) see or notice. The works act as maps that show the organization of space, movement and people. Some also show how maps can be tied to the imagination and abstractions. Altogether, they serve as valuable insights to and experiences of Southeast Asia’s largest cities. They also give audiences the ability to see into the future of Southeast Asian photography."
“Mapping Invisible Cities” will be on display until November 7. For more information, please call 8170978 or visit www.goethe.de/manila.

Kids

A friend who I haven't seen since last year posted pictures of herself in her friend's baby shower. Last I heard, friend was pregnant. "You don't look pregnant.. at all!" I said. "When are you due?" In true friend fashion, she responded hours after to say that she had a miscarriage. Obviously, I was the last to know - which is ironic because in the past, I was always the first. She also said that it was okay and that she and her husband will just try again. Well, good luck to them. I honestly can't imagine myself with a child - unless its Vicki from Small Wonder. I don't think I have enough patience and stomach to change diapers, the skills to stop them from crying, remembering to feed them,or teaching them the ways of the world. I seriously wouldn't know what to do with them, especially when they start throwing tatrums. But my friends seem to think I do because I have 7 godchildren, one of which breaks into tears when she either sees me or hears me laugh.

Aly with bad hair day Dora Juami and Sofia/Sophia. I always forget how her name is spelled.
Then I have another who I've been giving cars to every single year since he was born. He's already a big boy and he still prefers to get cars for his Birthday and Christmas. He said not to bother if I'll just give him clothes.
But anyway, someone gave me this wooden frame about 10 years ago and I'm saving it to hang in my future son's room just in case I change my mind. It says:
Why God Made Little Boys God made a world out of his dreams, Of magic mountains, oceans, and streams, Prairies and plains and wooded land, The paused and thought, "I need someone to stand On top of the mountains, to conquer the seas, Explore the plains and climb the trees, Someone to start out small and grow, Sturdy, strong like a tree and so, He created boys, full of spirit and fun, To explore and conquer, to romp and run, With dirty faces, anged up chins, With courageous hearts and boyish grins." When He had completed the task He'd begun, He surely said, "That's a job well done."

Urban living

Jessica Zafra, in her book, Chicken Pox for the Soul, said that "I think it is rude of people who are not in agriculture to get up early; they are only being virtuous in order to mock the rest of us." And mock they did when my brother and I rolled out of the house at 7:30 am - our first to drive to work from the house in yeeeaaaaarrrrsssss. Already, Filinvest was bumper to bumper and looked like a remake of the 7-hour evening traffic jam of long ago. Luckily, my Dad who left much earlier than we did was able to spy that the service road was free as a bird. We took that route and ended up in Makati an hour and a half after. In my former CBD life, I'd get up at 7, walk like a zombie to the kitchen to prepare a glass of iced tea that I always never finish (I need something sweet in the morning), eat a bit of breakfast while watching Shaun the Sheep and the morning news, tell my brother to hurry up in the bathroom, get ready, and walk to work. Now, I'm beginning to wonder what time I should leave tomorrow so I could be in Makati before 9am without having to force my eyes to open in the morning. Luckily, traffic wasn't so bad on the way home. Or maybe because I was driving like a madman on ecstacy. The only traffic I experienced was along Herrera, going towards Pasong Tamo. And when the stupid attendant at the Skyway toll was giving change to this bus that was on the E-Pass Only/ Absolutely No Change lane.

Moving out

This is the view I've been waking up to (or at least when my sister isn't in town) for the past 2 years. Once in a while, a batallion of security guards jog along Leviste St.  I could never make out what they scream while jogging but its sometimes so loud that I can hear it in my dream. And every weekend, I watch weekend shoppers come, go, linger, and lurk at the Salcedo Market. Even if its raining elephants, people still actually go. Except me. It's ironic because I live so close to it and I've only been there twice or thrice. On another window, there's the view of the tennis court of Makati Sports Club. Every Friday morning, a bunch of Koreans have lessons on the right most court and in the evening, all courts are taken over by frustrated Nadals and Sharapovas for multiple games of singles and doubles. Unfortunately, I will no longer have that view because we've moved out of that building the other day.  I never realized I had so much junk stored in my room until I set aside all my shnazz last Thursday. We'll be moving to another condo down the street. We hope to settle in the new place in a month, hopefully earlier. In the meantime, we're back living in the `burbs. It's so quiet.

Flying the friendly skies

This takes flying to totally hilarious new heights. What would you do if they showed this safety video on your 14 hour flight to Frankfurt? Or if your flight attendant was like this - Watch more of Pam Ann here.

J'aime Paris

I used to think going to Paris was such a cliche. When I went eight years ago, I found it such a bore because everything looked the same - from the buildings to the tree lined streets. That all changed during my last trip to the City of Lights. And it was all thanks to Angelique, my turning-french cousin who took us around. I now have a new found fondness for Paris, despite its mostly cloudy days. We stayed in this boutique hotel called Hotel Lavosier in the idontknowhicharrondissement. They didn't have room service or a proper restaurant but it was nice, quaint, and walking distance to Fauchon, Baccarat, Place de Madeleine, Hermes, and rue St Honore. If you're planning to visit Paris and are looking for a nice place to stay in, check this site called www.Loveparishotel.com. for super great deals. I'm planning to hit Europe again in two years, after I spend my 30th birthday next year in San Diego and maybe Canada. I just might decide to swing by Paris again so I can hoard boxes of macaroons from Laduree and hand carry them home.

Bringing on the bling bling

I'm not even going to lie - I happen to like Mariah's songs, except when they turn R & B-ish. I prefer her soothing and sometimes glass-shattering vocals when she sings them ballads. I love her duet with Brian McKnight in Whenever You Call and Endless Love with Luther. I caught her performing Bye Bye on Oprah last night. She must have been pissed at the sounds/ backup vocals people because she kept on looking back, probably to tell them that to shut up because their voice was overpowering hers. What I found more amusing was not only was her microphone bejewelled - the entire stand was too! Keep an eye out for her shoes. They can be real killers.

How to be rich

Everyone dreams to be filthy rich someday so they can have a big steak and foie gras when they're ticked off, like Bea. Yeah, she's ghetto that way. For those who want to want to live the lifestyles of the rich and famous, here's what you can do:

  • Marry an old rich fogie and wait for them to, uhm, pass quietly to the next Mogul realm. But they've got to be really old. It would help if they were also quite feeble, absent-minded, and don't have any greedy/smart/cunning family members.
  • Buy a business that already generates lots of cash flow ... but don't pay too much for it. And it's icing on the cake if the owner is feeble and absent-minded!
  • Check your name on the unclaimed property list in every state that has one. You might just be the unwitting recipient of a Madrigal-like inheritance!
  • Announce to the world that you're in discussions with venture capitalists and are launching a social networking, mobile content or Internet advertising firm. Ok let's be clear about this. I didn't say to actually launch the firm. Just announce it ... and wait for the multi-million dollar buy offers to roll in!
  • Hack into the secret time travel project now going on at the U.S. Defense Department. Send yourself back to 1985. Buy 1,000 shares of Microsoft stock. Case closed!
Or you can also buy this and pretend you're one of Forbes' Richest in Asia. Buy Ayala Ave and put up 6-star hotels or buy Meralco or Maynilad (who would want to buy PNR??). Because in this game, you can be if you know how to play the game right. Available in Toys 'R Us for less than P700.

White Hat

I realized after seeing photos of my circa 2007 self that not only have i grown fatter (yey!), I've also lost the abs I worked so hard on to gain. It's not even funny anymore. I have to keep a mental check to keep sucking my tummy in. When I used to work myself out to death at the gym every day, I'd push myself to do 600 crunches for middle and upper abs and 200 each for obliques. It was painful, but it was the kind of pain that felt really good. So with that gone, I've become determined to get it back - and try to keep the weight I gained. Juan said I should do some cardio, lift, and eat more meat than usual. Others said I should just run. I say, I should cut down on fatty stuff and (maybe) do cardio and lift. So that means, lessening sweets and going for more healthy but still yummy alternatives, like White Hat. White Hat in Mall of Asia lets health conscious folk enjoy the good stuff without the guilt. The concept is pretty simple. You choose either the regular or large serving, and select from a variety of toppings. They've got all sorts of fruit, chocolates, cheesecake, sprinkles, and cereal. No, piling up on all that doesn't mean it'll defeat the purpose of going healthy. It's 98% fat free Italian yogurt! I had mine with spoon fulls of mandarin oranges, peaches, strawberry, and mango bits. It was light and yet very filling.

White Hat's store is located on the second floor of the Entertainment mall.

It's right across Nike and Speedo. The easiest way is to go up the stairs or escalator near the SM Science Discovery Center. White Hat is also located near the Mall of Asia cinemas, near the exit facing the bay (Ocean Drive).
